SuperMap Powers the Map Making Contest at NatGESxGESC 2024 in the Philippines

06 May,2024

On April 28-29, SuperMap participated in the annual National Geodetic Engineering Summit x Geodetic Engineering Student Conference 2024 (NatGESxGESC 2024) at the Film Center of University of the Philippines-Diliman (UP Diliman), Quezon City. The event gathered around 550 geodetic engineering students, faculty, and professionals from different universities and colleges all over the country. One of the main highlights of the 2-day event is the Map Making Contest powered by SuperMap where 5 teams of students showcased their knowledge on the use of GIS in the field of urban planning and development and 3 teams of them won the final award.

At the Geodetic Engineering Student Conference, Mr. Efren Ricalde, the Managing Director of RASA Surveying, SuperMap's main partner in the Philippines, delivered a very insightful presentation to the audience as a major sponsor of the event. He discussed the top technologies being used in geomatics nowadays: digital twin and artificial intelligence. He also gave emphasis on how the partnership with SuperMap GIS has helped the company develop smart city and digital twin projects that would be beneficial for the communities. With this, he encouraged the students and professionals to be part of the new breakthroughs in the field of geomatics and be fellow advocates of providing and advancing the smart city and digital twin solutions for the society.

At the Map Making Contest, 5 teams from different schools advanced to the final out of 10 teams at the preliminary after presenting on-stage about the methodologies they did in order to come up with their final maps on the first day. Using the SuperMap GIS software, as students said, has become easier and effective for them to do the different GIS analysis and studies to support their maps.

SuperMap's very own Business Development Officer in the Philippines, Mr. Kevin Martin Cornejo, together with the other two judges checked the entries and selected 3 map-making winners. They were announced on the following day, where Mr. Kevin, together with the organizers, Mr. Neil Andrei Arca – UP GE Club President, Mr. Cliff Jeric Decena – UP GE Club Academics Affairs Head, and Mr. Ron Gabriel Pollicar – UP GE Club Marketing Head, gave the prizes and recognition to the outstanding winners.

Mr. Kevin has also invited everyone to join the SuperMap International GIS Contest for 2024. He encouraged everyone to join so that they can practice on the use of the different outstanding capabilities of the SuperMap GIS software, as what the (five) 5 teams have realized during the map making contest.
