SuperMap presents in UNESCO workshop for World Heritage Conservation

04 Aug,2014 China

Remote sensing and GIS technologies have been successfully used to monitor and evaluate the land cover changes over large areas of the planet. UNESCO, in partnership with some space agencies in the world, is assisting developing Member States by applying space technologies to assess the state of conservation of UNESCO-inscribed cultural and natural heritage sites. Recent developments in RS & GIS are enabling new applications for the assessment of heritage sites.

However not all UNESCO Member States have the capacity to use these technologies in monitoring the state of conservation of their UNESCO-inscribed sites. But many Member States have strong demands of improving their capacities in understanding and utilizing these technologies for monitoring their heritage sites.

For this purpose, an international workshop “Application of Space Technologies in Management and Conservation of World Heritage Sites” was organized in Beijing during 1-20 July, 2014.
SuperMap had been invited to deliver a 2-day GIS training for this workshop. Ms Evelyn from SuperMap had introduce how to use the cutting edge 3D GIS technologies to model heritage sites. All the members learned a lot from this training session. They showed great interest and expected to use this technology in their daily work and better help protect the local heritage sites in their respective areas.
