About "Beijing Economic Census Geographic Information System"

In the Second National Economic Census of China, Beijing is one of pilot regions which were appointed to develop Geographic Information System based on digital Census mapping, make full use of digital mapping in pilot survey, use digital mapping instead of manual mapping, and make full use of digital map to divide into different enumeration district and print out the map.

Traditional paper mapping of enumeration district was made by hand, difficult to guarantee accuracy of the division, and took too time to prepare for. Digital mapping of enumeration district maintains the digital mapping easily and reduces the cost of manual mapping considerably.

In July 2008, the General construction scheme of Beijing Economic Census Geographic Information System was developed. In September 2009, the development of the system was completed. On 21 January, 2010, the system passed the State acceptance inspection and then was put into practical application.

As a result of realizing electronic census figures in the Beijing Economic Census Geographic Information System, the census workload has been reduced by 30% and the cost of economic census has been saved considerably, while the quality of census data was improved.

Based on the spatialization and spatial refinement of statistical data, the quality and the origin traceability of statistical data are improved greatly, service forms of statistical data are expanded, and the statistical capacity and the public credibility are improved.

This project achieved the most advanced census partition and electronic mapping of building and construction in census industry, established the most detailed statistical geographic underlying database in China, set Economic Census Map Schema Specification, Economic Census Data Specification on Geographical Names, Economic Census Map database Specification, and achieved spatial refinement of statistic data management, query and analysis.

The use of multi-disciplinary integration of geospatial framework and time dimensions of the socio-economic statistics for the government's scientific management and decision-making space refinement statistics support, has great social benefits. The system has played an important role in Beijing's 12th five-year plan.
