Three-dimensional geographic design technology is upgraded to enhance spatial planning and design capabilities
In recent years, with the continuous development of the integrated application of BIM and GIS, geographic design has gradually upgraded from two-dimensional to three-dimensional, and has been widely applied in urban, transportation, water conservancy, electricity, pipeline network and other planning and design fields.
Since the launch of the three-dimensional geographic design desktop module in 2018, SuperMap has continuously innovated and improved three-dimensional geographic design technology and products, not only having expanded and enriched the two- and three-dimensional integrated data models and regular modeling capabilities, but also enhanced the calculation and analysis capabilities of three-dimensional spatial data.
In 2022, SuperMap launched the three-dimensional geographic design extension module of server -side processing automation (GPA), realizing three-dimensional geographic design capabilities in the cloud. In 2023, SuperMap launched the WebApp for three-dimensional geographic design, providing users with a brand-new online three-dimensional geographic design and multi-person interactive editing experience.
This year, SuperMap GIS 2024 further enhances the rule-based modeling capabilities based on the original three-dimensional geographic design functions. It not only improves the model operation operators, but also adds support for the rapid construction of urban roads and buildings based on procedural modeling tools, greatly improving the construction efficiency of city-level building and road models.
01More abundant model operation operators to easily build complex 3D models
SuperMap GIS 2024 provides more model operation operators for building complex 3D models; a new output model stream operator is added to support the output of the generated 3D model into a model stream used on the Web; a new operator to create composite object is added to merge multiple parameterized objects into one object; a new operator to get bounding box is added to support the obtaining of the center point, length, width, height and other information of the bounding box of a geometric object, providing parameter support for further spatial operations.
02 More powerful road design tools for the construction of multi-factor road models with one click
Road scheme design
To support accurate and high-quality road planning and design, SuperMap GIS 2024 has released a road scheme design function that supports the rapid generation of 3D models of roads, tunnels, bridges, slope protection, etc. based on road centerlines, terrain, and specified rules.
The combined use of GPA tools such as road scheme design, model generation tiles, TIN mosaics, surface operations, and service publishing can achieve one-click execution of the entire process from raw data to model construction, model and terrain fusion, and then to service publishing. This GPA process can also be run in the cloud ( SuperMap iServer ) and supports dynamically generating different design effects by modifying parameters.

Urban road and road intersection design
In order to realize one-click intelligent construction of multi-factor urban road models, SuperMap has launched a new urban road design capability in SuperMap GIS 2024 based on programmatic modeling tools. It supports the rapid construction of three-dimensional urban road network models based on road centerline data and parameter information such as road grade and lane width. Currently, the construction of urban road models for 20,000 road centerlines can be completed within 1 minute. SuperMap GIS 2024 provides a variety of road styles, supports the construction of road intersections, sidewalks, zebra crossings, etc., and provides 10 types of guide arrows. It can automatically generate road traffic markings such as white dotted lines and white solid lines according to road grades.
