Immediate Collection and Use of Remote Sensing Data is Accelerating. Are you ready?

21 Jun,2024

In recent years, driven by the demonstration of the national high-resolution satellite project, China's commercial remote sensing satellite industry has developed rapidly. By the end of 2022, the number of commercial remote sensing satellites in orbit in China has increased rapidly from more than ten five years ago to more than one hundred, and the interval between shooting at the same location has also been shortened from the "day" level to the "minute" level. At the same time, the successful application of inter-satellite laser communication and satellite-to-ground laser communication will also greatly shorten the time interval from satellite imaging to ground reception of remote sensing data. The era of remote sensing big data has arrived.

How to quickly process and interpret massive remote sensing images, convert "cold" pixels into valuable information, and achieve T+1 application readiness or even near real-time application is the dream that the industry has been pursuing.

01 How to further improve the efficiency of remote sensing data processing?

Over the past decade, remote sensing data preprocessing technology has achieved a transformation from manual single-machine production to automated, distributed production, greatly improving data processing efficiency. Faced with the rapidly growing demand for ready-to-use remote sensing image applications, the industry has ushered in new challenges: 1. How to achieve more efficient data processing through technology upgrades? 2. How to eliminate barriers between collection, processing, analysis, and application of remote sensing data? At the technical level, it is necessary to use advanced algorithms to improve the processing efficiency of a single function, and to optimize the technical system to activate computing resources and achieve the best coordinated call. At the product level, it is necessary to break the traditional model of long-term disconnection between remote sensing and GIS, realize remote sensing and GIS integration, and meet the requirements of efficient processing of remote sensing images. In 2023, the industry has launched remote sensing and GIS integrated technology and products, which realized the above-mentioned technical improvements and product optimization, and turning remote sensing data "collected today and applied tomorrow" into reality. What new breakthroughs will remote sensing and GIS integrated technology achieve in 2024? What new improvements have been made in remote sensing data processing efficiency?

02 How will remote sensing intelligent interpretation technology develop in the future?

Remote sensing intelligent interpretation technology can realize automatic recognition, classification and extraction of earth surface features based on artificial intelligence technology, quickly interpret them into valuable information, and finally form data elements. The emergence of intelligent interpretation technology based on convolutional neural networks has brought a new opportunity for intelligent interpretation of remote sensing images. Due to the complexity of the ground objects themselves and the huge differences in time, space and resolution of remote sensing imaging, the intelligent interpretation of remote sensing images is highly complex, the trained intelligent interpretation model can usually only cope with specific tasks, the generalization ability of the model is poor, and the migration cost is high. The emergence of large models in the field of computer vision such as SAM (Segment Anything Model) provides a new technical direction for the development of remote sensing intelligent interpretation. In the era of near-real-time application of remote sensing images, how to complete the rapid processing and information interpretation of remote sensing images? What technological changes will remote sensing image processing technology usher in? What changes will the large remote sensing interpretation model bring to the industry? On June 25-26, the 2024 Geospatial Intelligence Software Technology Conference (referred to as "GISTC 2024") with the theme of "Geospatial Intelligence, Driving Quality Development" will be held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. The conference will focus on new technologies in geospatial intelligent software, new progress in remote sensing and GIS integration, new achievements in AI big models, and new ideas for informatization in various industries.
