3D GIS

BIM

1. 3D GIS needs BIM

BIM data is an important data source for 3D GIS, allowing 3D GIS changing from macro to micro, realizing detailed management. Also, merging with BIM data allows 3D GIS extending from outdoor to indoor, realizing indoor & outdoor integration management.

2.Integration between BIM data and 3D GIS

The data structure of BIM data includes spatial data (model) and attribute data (parameter). The spatial data model includes location, shape, etc., which is similar with the data structure of 3D GIS. The attribute data includes design parameter, construction parameter and maintenance parameter, etc. 3D GIS covers the data structure of BIM (spatial data + attribute data), BIM data displaying format (3D model), BIM data object. BIM is only for building objects while GIS covers more than building objects, and have the similar functions with BIM (information management, spatial analysis, etc.). Therefore, 3D GIS and BIM can create unlimited possibilities.

3.How to dock data

Currently, there are many BIM software and BIM formats. For Autodesk Revit, SuperMap provide ¡®SuperMap Export¡¯ add-in. SuperMap Export will export BIM model in Revit to SuperMap UDB datasource, and store to designated data source file and export completely. Currently, formats of CATIA, DGN will use intermediary format, export data through 3ds Max plugin provided by SuperMap.

4.Capabilities

SuperMap Export categorizes the groups of BIM models and stores them into corresponding datasets, which allows functions like setting visible, editable, LOD scaling, etc. on each layer.

Layer visibility
In the layer manager, the visibility of each layer can be set in SuperMap iDesktop.

Measuring

SuperMap GIS supports distance, area, altitude measurement of BIM.

Query model attribute information

Loading BIM dataset in 3D scene allows viewing the attribute information inside the model. Turn on select mode or wander mode, double click some object, the attribute panel will be popped out on the right side. The panel displays all the attribute information of the object.

SQL Query

Query entity by attribute. E.g. query all the windows at the 6th floor.

Entity color changing

Entity color can be changed by setting color chart. Using SuperMap GIS, we can set the displaying color of the model without changing the attribute of the data itself.

Section of BIM Model

Can acquire the sections of BIM model, including cross section, vertical section and arbitrary section, supports converting 3D data into 2D data meanwhile 2D data records its SmID (same with the SmID of BIM model) and all the attribute information of model.

3D spatial analysis

Like traditional 3DS MAX model, after importing BIM data, SuperMap GIS provides various 3D spatial analysis functions, such as visibility analysis, sunshine analysis, viewshed analysis, box tiling.
