3D GIS Overview

The concept of two or three dimensional integration was first put forward by SuperMap and put it into use. The 2D & 3D integration technology system is based on SuperMap standard C++ core, and is mainly reflected in the data management  integration, application integration, function module integration, expression symbol system integration and analysis function integration, which make the 3D visualization GIS not only have beautiful life like, also followed all powerful GIS function from 2D, like data storage, management, query and spatial analysis function etc.


The key technical features of SuperMap 2D & 3D integration system are as follows

1.  2D & 3D integration of the data structure. The data model and data structure of 2D and 3D data objects are kept the same design from bottom; all the two-dimensional data without any conversion, can be directly used with high performance in the 3D scene and 3D expression reading effect.

2.  Spatial data management 2D & 3D integration. By the method of storing 2D data and 3D data in a universal database, SuperMap GIS platform uses SDX+ database engine to access data, add business attributes and edit attribute data for 3D model data efficiently. SuperMap skillfully utilizes the ability of the ability of 2D & 3D integration, and carries out the correlation between the data of the surface vector and the oblique photography model, so as to realize the single attribute selection and spatial query for oblique photograph. The 2D & 3D integration of data management solves the problem of data compatibility of different dimension, and reduces the cost and complexity of the system construction to meet the needs of various types of business

3.  Scene construction 2D & 3D integration. As we know, high cost in modeling is the main problem what most users face, comparatively, the vector data would be cheaper, far important is most of users have own much 2D data. So it is significant to load 2D data in scene and show in 3D, all business requirements for querying, analysis also can be satisfied based on vector data.  

4.  Symbolization 3D scene. Symbolic application is the landmark difference between 3D GIS and other 3D visualization software. In 3D scene, plants, pipelines, water and other elements can present by three-dimensional symbols, can significantly reduce the cost of data modeling, meanwhile, taking into account the data query and analysis.

5.  Spatial analysis 2D & 3D integration. Spatial analysis functions are supported in both 2D map and 3D scene. 3D network analysis is widely used in pipeline management and deal with so many practical problem in municipal administration. GPU graphics hardware acceleration provide a powerful support for 3D analysis functions and bring user a good experience by high performance.
