3D Management of University

Jilin University covers an area of 6.11 million square meters and it has 8 campuses scattered in Changchun City. Due to the large scale of schools, and the fragmentation of multi-school campuses, the basic data in different fields has been partially lost, scattered, and difficult to update dynamically. To improve the University management, SuperMap Group and Jilin University designed the 3D campus information management system.

The system is a 3D model of the ground objects and the underground pipelines.  It is based on 2D&3D integration technology and combines with B\S, C\S and M\S system architectures. It is also recognized as the management information system with the technologies of database, GIS and 3D, and covers the functions of data storage, query, statistics and analysis based on network resources facilities and geospatial information resources.

The system creates a 3D scene based on the 1:500 topographic map data of Jilin University with the accurate geographical coordinates of buildings, trees and roads. The appearance of the building is consistent with the actual appearance, which can truly show the school landscape with functions of arbitrary scaling, ground and underground roaming, distance measuring, area measuring, etc.

Innovations

The new underground pipeline 3D scene construction technology

The system takes the technologies of pipeline terrain matching and adaptive pipe point to realize the pipeline symbolization, which solves the problems of large manual workload, poor terrain matching, unfavorable management of large model, and data updating.

"One map “campus management model 

Based on the “one map” campus information resource sharing and application model, the system builds a framework for campus information resource integration, which realizes the effective geographic information resources integration of campus and provides decision analysis and data sharing services for University. 

After the utilization of 3D campus management system, it reduces the emergency repair cost by nearly one million Yuan per year and creates unpredictable economic benefits. The system is connected with the University energy supervision platform to save about 6.5 million Yuan of the school water and electricity expenditure by reforming them. In addition, Jilin University also used the system to manage and deploy public housing, and initiated the reform of public housing management. It is estimated that the annual collection of resources for the school will be 9.67 million Yuan. The system has saved a lot of management work time and manpower for Jilin University, which has increased the work efficiency by more than 30%.
