New Features of SuperMap GIS 9D (2019) - 3D

The GIS 9D (2019) version fully embraces the spatial big data technology, and upgrades in spatial big data, micro-services, containerization, cloud native, automatic operation and maintenance fields. Also, the cloud GIS function has been further improved to build a new generation of 3D GIS technology system to meet more wide range of application needs. So let’s have a look at the new features.

3D Data Modeling and 3D Spatial Operation

3D Data Modeling

The new 3D GIS technology expands the 2D and 3D integrated data model, and combines multi-source heterogeneous data such as oblique photogrammetry, BIM, laser point cloud, etc. Figure 1 shows the effect of oblique photogrammetry model and road data integration.

New irregular tetrahedral meshes and voxel grid have been added. Users can construct irregular tetrahedral meshes by using 3D point sets, and it supports to use interpolation to obtain voxel grid. Irregular tetrahedral meshes and voxel grids are commonly used to express mineral deposits and various 3D fields (such as wireless communication fields, temperature fields, wind fields, etc.). Taking air pollution for example, it can be dynamically filtered according to the pollution levels (Figure 2) and the voxel grid also supports dynamic sectioning from different directions at the same time (Figure 3).

3D Spatial Operation

No matter in spatial query, spatial computing or spatial analysis, we need to consider the 2D and 3D technology supports. The 2D and 3D integrated data model is the solid foundation of SuperMap's new generation 3D GIS technology. 

SuperMap GIS 9D (2019) products fully support 3D spatial query, spatial computing and spatial analysis. In SuperMap iServer 9D (2019), the spatial relationship query function of 3D model data set, the 3D Boolean operation function based on the geometric object, the descending dimension calculation of the 3D model data set are newly added. At the same time, the 3D client also provides an interface for docking the 3D spatial query, operation, and analysis functions of the server. 

Lightweight Full-function "WebGL" 3D Products

SuperMap GIS 9D (2019) fully enriches the performances and functions of the lightweight full-function 3D product SuperMap iClient3D for WebGL, which includes: reducing memory and memory usage, supporting 3D spatial query, 3D operation and analysis functions based on 3D solid objects, supporting docking NetCDF data format and  displaying wind field motion in particle special effect.

It also supports voxel grid to attach to the buildings’ surface to simulate a 3D field effect of communication signal strength.

The RTSP video streaming standard is added to support a large number of different formats of video accessing, including: avi, mp4, rmvb, wmv, flv, dat, asf, f4v, mkv, mov, mpg, ts, vob, webm, etc.

SuperMap GIS 9D (2019) focuses on the application of 3D GIS in the field of geographic design, mainly in supporting the construction of the rule base and the visual representation:

Support the Construction of City Rule Bases

Based on the GIS function of SuperMap GIS 9D (2019), the construction ability of the rule base in city designing has been provided, including: control box detection of building plans, statistics of various building area ratios, and building line detection along the street.

SuperMap GIS 9D (2019) supports the visualization of city design elements in roads and borders fields in 3D scenes.

3D GIS Fully Supports Linux

SuperMap GIS 9D (2019) supports Linux in 3D data storage, analysis, visualization and service release, which followes the cloud GIS application server (SuperMap iServer), "zero plug-in" client (SuperMap iClient3D for WebGL), component development platform (SuperMap iObjects C++). SuperMap iObjects Java and SuperMap iDesktop Java products also provide the ability to run 3D GIS in Linux.

AR (Augmented Reality) Function

SuperMap iMobile 9D (2019) for Android 3D special effects module newly adds AR function, which supports motion tracking, plane recognition, thus the virtual 3D plane scenes and the real world can be fully integrated. When moving the phone in real world, it can adjust the camera pose and align it with virtual scene in real time, which makes the virtual contents to be a part of the real world when looking at them.

Base on the mobile GIS function, AR can be fully integrated with GIS application field. For example, in figure 10, the pipeline layout can be showed by AR. In construction site, the information that hidden in building wall is hard to see directly, but with AR, it can help constructors and maintenance personnel to better understand the building situation.
