"Beyond" the Cape of Good Hope: SuperMap Showcases GIS Innovations at FIG Congress 2026

01 Jun,2026

From May 24 to 29, the 28th Congress of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) was held in Cape Town, South Africa, under the theme "The Future We Want – The SDGs and Beyond." The event brought together geospatial professionals, government agencies, academic institutions, and industry leaders from around the world to explore innovative approaches and emerging opportunities in land administration, natural resource management, urban development, and sustainable growth in the digital era.

As a leading GIS technology provider from China, SuperMap participated as a Platinum Sponsor, presenting its latest advancements in 3D GIS, GeoAI, and integrated geospatial solutions across multiple industries, demonstrating the growing role of Chinese geospatial innovation on the global stage.

During the exhibition, SuperMap highlighted two of its core technologies: 3D GIS and GeoAI.

SuperMap's 3D GIS technology enables the creation of comprehensive digital twin environments, ranging from large-scale terrain modeling to detailed urban simulations, providing accurate visualization and management of complex spatial assets. Meanwhile, GeoAI enhances geospatial analysis with intelligent capabilities for feature recognition, prediction, and decision support, helping organizations unlock greater value from spatial data.

Powered by these technologies, SuperMap showcased a wide range of integrated solutions covering natural resource governance, spatial planning and monitoring, digital twin cities, smart energy management, climate action decision support, marine resource management, and automated production of high-precision maps. The solutions demonstrated how spatial intelligence can address real-world challenges and accelerate digital transformation across industries.

Throughout the Congress, the SuperMap booth attracted significant attention from government officials, industry leaders, and geospatial professionals worldwide.

Among the distinguished visitors was Mr. Mzwanele Nyhontso, South Africa’s Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development, who met with the SuperMap team to discuss the application of geospatial technologies in land administration, spatial planning, and rural development.

A parliamentary delegation led by Ghana's Second Deputy Speaker also visited the booth, showing particular interest in digital twin technologies and intelligent flood management solutions.

In addition, experts and industry representatives from Nigeria, Kenya, Malaysia, Türkiye, France, Romania, Greece, and other countries engaged in extensive discussions with SuperMap on topics including smart cities, digital twins, GeoAI, and disaster management, laying the groundwork for future international cooperation and technology exchange.

As part of the Congress program, SuperMap delivered a commercial presentation titled "Empowering Sustainable Development with Geo-Intelligence: SuperMap GIS Applications in Natural Resource Management."

The presentation focused on practical applications of geospatial intelligence technologies, highlighting how GeoAI is being used to support refined natural resource management, smart water governance, ecological restoration assessment, and evidence-based decision-making. Through real-world case studies, SuperMap demonstrated how advanced GIS technologies can contribute to sustainable development and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of natural resource management.

Over the years, SuperMap has established a growing presence across Africa, with successful projects and localized services already deployed in countries such as Ghana and Nigeria. FIG Congress 2026 provided an important platform for strengthening partnerships across the continent and expanding global collaboration opportunities.

Looking ahead, SuperMap remains committed to advancing independent innovation in geospatial technologies and delivering industry-focused solutions worldwide. By leveraging spatial intelligence to support sustainable development, SuperMap will continue expanding its global footprint while contributing Chinese innovation to the international geospatial community.
