The 8th International GIS Training Workshop Concludes Successfully in Beijing

27 Jun,2025

On June 26, the 8th International GIS Training Workshop concluded successfully in Beijing. The workshop focused on cutting-edge technologies and development trends in the field of Geographic Information Science (GIS), bringing together over 40 government and enterprise representatives as well as technical experts from 12 countries, including Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, and Malawi, for a day of intensive learning and exchange. Wang Haitao, Vice President of SuperMap and President of its International Business Division, delivered the opening speech.

In his address, Wang Haitao emphasized that the geospatial information industry is integrating into the pulse of global development with unprecedented depth and breadth, becoming a core driver of the digital economy. He encouraged all participants to seize this learning opportunity, engage in in-depth exchanges, and bring advanced technological concepts and practical experience back to their home countries to jointly promote the prosperity and development of the global GIS industry.

Cutting-Edge Technology Focus: Content Aligned with Hot Topics

The workshop curriculum revolved around two key subjects: "GIS Platform Software Technology" and "Frontier Applications." Experts including Wang Shaohua, Researcher at the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth; Chen Sujuan, Manager of the Fundamental R&D Center at Sunway Technology; Gu Ning, Remote Sensing Product Marketing Engineer of SuperMap’s Platform Product Line; and other lecturers from SuperMap International, systematically analyzed the latest advancements in remote sensing data processing and intelligent interpretation technologies, along with their applications in resource monitoring and environmental assessment.

They also explored AI-powered 2D/3D data production and the advantages of cloud-native GIS platforms in building elastic, scalable, and high-performance geospatial solutions.

On frontier application topics such as "AI Empowering Urban Planning and Management," "Digital Twin City Platform Construction and Technology," "Full Lifecycle Engineering Construction Management," and "Key Technologies and Applications in Low-Altitude Economy," the instructors provided in-depth insights into AI's revolutionary breakthroughs in spatial big data analytics and intelligent decision-making support for urban governance.

Discussions also covered the vast potential of geospatial data acquired via drones and other low-altitude platforms in smart city management, new infrastructure monitoring, and emergency response. These cutting-edge topics sparked strong interest among participants, leading to lively interactions both inside and outside the classroom.

Successful Graduation: Paving the Way for Future Development

In the end, all participants successfully completed the program. Wang Haitao presented the internationally recognized completion certificates to the attendees, congratulating them on their achievements.

He highlighted that this workshop would inject new momentum into capacity building for participating countries in smart governance, sustainable development, and emerging industries.

Moving forward, the workshop will continue leveraging its professional platform advantages, enriching exchange content, and actively promoting the dissemination, application, and talent cultivation of international geospatial information technologies.
