On May 29, SuperMap and Romania's University of Life Sciences "King Mihai I" from Timișoara (USVT) co-hosted an international workshop themed "Geospatial Intelligence Empowering GIS Industry Applications" at the university campus.
Representatives from enterprises and research institutions in the field of geospatial science, alongside experts and scholars from multiple universities and local government officials, gathered to discuss the deep integration and innovative development of GIS technology in agriculture, environment, remote sensing, urban planning, forestry, and other fields.
Roger Wang and Professor Popescu Sign Cooperation Agreement
At the event, Roger Wang, Vice President of SuperMap and President of SuperMap International, and Prof. univ. dr. Cosmin Alin Popescu Rector of USVT, signed a strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties.
The collaboration will focus on GIS curriculum development, sharing of teaching resources, establishment of joint practical training platforms, and the co-founding of a SuperMap GIS Laboratory to provide students with a specialized and practice-oriented learning environment. This marks SuperMap’s first such agreement in Romania.
In his address, Roger Wang elaborated on the development trends of geospatial intelligence and the transformative impact of deep integration between AI, big data, and geospatial intelligence software technologies.
He emphasized that geospatial intelligence software is not only a vital tool for spatial data management and analysis but also a bridge linking the physical and digital worlds. With advancements in remote sensing imagery, spatio-temporal big data, and intelligent algorithms, geospatial intelligence technology will play an increasingly critical role in cadastral management, agricultural monitoring, natural resource management, and urban governance.
SuperMap International's Chief Product Engineering Expert, Guo Bo; Regional Business Director, Yu Zongwen; and Regional Technical Director, Zhang Xiaoyu delivered thematic reports on SuperMap's product and technology ecosystem, remote sensing image processing, and land information management systems. They showcased innovative applications of SuperMap in smart agriculture, ecological monitoring, land registration, and other fields, sparking keen interest and lively discussions among attendees.
Professors from USVT also presented their research achievements in agricultural remote sensing, disaster prevention and mitigation, land use, and sustainable development.
In his speech, Professor Popescu, also a renowned cadastral expert in Romania, stated: "Today's collaboration is not just a choice for the present but a strategic investment in the future. Innovation through combining our strengths is key to turning 'good' into 'even better.'"
He expressed strong expectations for the partnership with SuperMap, hoping to advance Romania's geospatial education, research, and industrial applications with China's geospatial intelligence technology.
SuperMap Delegation Meets with University Representatives
As an important country in Eastern Europe, Romania has urgent demand for GIS technology in agriculture, land management, and environmental protection, indicating significant potential for future cooperation.
This workshop not only highlights the achievements of SuperMap and USVT but also reflects the broader educational and technological collaboration between China and Romania.
Through this partnership, SuperMap will further deepen the integration of "industry-academia-research-application," build a localized education and technical support system, and contribute to the high-quality development of the GIS industry in Romania and across Eastern Europe.
