SuperMap Successfully Passed CMMI L3 Appraisal

SuperMap GIS Technologies, Inc. successfully achieved the appraisal of Capability Maturity Model Integration Level 3 (CMMI L3) in August 2007 and obtained CMMI L3 certificate, which indicates both SuperMap GIS products and projects meet up with the requirements of CMMI L3. Standard and systematic procedures have been set up for project management, product quality assurance, project control etc. to guarantee a steady progress on software quality as well as customer satisfaction.


Appraisal ceremony of CMMI L3

The appraisal was headed by the appraisal group leader, Mr. Anandkumar Shelat, from SEI of KPMG. A ten day thorough appraisal for implementation of CMMI L3 and below at SuperMap was undertaken according to the SCAMPI strategy of SEI. The contents include project plan, project supervision and control, assessment and analysis, procedure and product quality assurance, configuration management, requirement analysis, technical solutions, verification, confirmation, organizational definition, training, risk management and so on. Overall, the group highly recognized SuperMap`s standardized procedure system, R&D supportive system, project supportive system as well as process improvement.


SuperMap has long been appreciating process and quality management of the GIS products and projects with a practical management system for R&D and projects. In 2006, CMMI was introduced into SuperMap`s product and project management as a major improvement practice. A special working team for process improvement and project management was organized and specifications for R&D were published and a thorough standardized management for R&D process was implemented. After consistent and concerted efforts among departments, the management has been greatly enhanced and finally CMMI L3 was achieved.


CMMI, namely Capability Maturity Model Integration, refers to a framework for a specific subject, containing key elements of effective process of the subject. The model collects effective process elements as a whole to validate individual element in respective environment. CMMI enjoys a wide range of acceptance as it has become a key reference factor for measuring development proficiency of a software company and a factual standard for software process improvement.
