SuperMap GIS Conference 2007 was successfully held at Beijing International Convention Center, September 14-15. Over 2, 000 GIS experts and users from governments, academia, a variety of industries and enthusiastic individuals attended this grand conference. A number of internation-al guests from Japan,Southeast Asia, Africa and Europe also participated.

The opening ceremony
With the theme of “With GIS, We Do IT Better”, Professor Zhong Ershun, the board chairman of SuperMap, made a keynote speech, reviewing the process and innovative achievements in GIS platform made by SuperMap during the past 10 years. Dr. Song Guanfu, the CEO of SuperMap delivered a keynote speech on the topic of Service GIS, an Agile Business Approach to GIS Applications, coming up with a new concept – Service GIS.
After the keynote speeches, a launching ceremony was held, a series of latest SuperMap GIS products - SuperMap GIS 2008, were released. It delivers a complete support for SOA, multi aggregation of spatial information, faster spatial analysis; it also supports genuine 64bit computation, multi core CPU architecture and server clustering technologies. It is fully compatible with Windows XP, Vista, Linux and UNIX as well as latest .NET/Java runtime environments and their developing tools.
In particular, to get prepared for SaaS (Software as a Service) and SOA (Service Oriented Architecture), a brand new GIS service platform, Super-Map iServer 2008 was released. As a comprehensive software solution for Service GIS, SuperMap iServer is not only capable to disseminate GeoRSS, WMS, WCS, WFS, WPS and KML services but also to be equipped with powerful service aggregation capability. Meanwhile, a satellite navigation developing platform, SuperNavigation Engine 2008, was announced too. It is based on SuperMap’s Universal GIS architecture and complied with the national standard for in-car navigation digital map storage format. Similar with other family members, it supports various Operating Systems, IDEs and CPUs, which is an ideal choice for navigational developers.
Followed by the plenary conference, six sessions were held for special interest groups covering from eGovernment, Enterprise Information Construction, Land Information System, Remote Sensing Technologies and Applications, Public Security, as well as a special International session. At the International session, Mr. B.J. Mak, the general manager of SuperMap International Business Division, delivered a keynote address with a title of A Balanced GIS, A Balanced World. Dr. Frank Yang, the deputy general manager of SuperMap International Business Division introduced SuperMap’s long term strategy on the International market with a presentation titled “Starting to Cooperate with SuperMap”. Latest GIS technologies were then presented by R&D directors and potential applications to overseas markets were discussed with international guests.

SuperMap Exhibition Zone
Between sessions, a SuperMap exhibition jointly hosted by its partners was held. A number of SuperMap Partners Network (SPN) member companies as well as some IT and industry specific vendors such as Microsoft, HP, Leica, Epson, etc participated in the exhibition, making the theme With GIS, We Do IT Better come true.
