Data Management

    Visual spatial data management

SuperMap Desktop GIS products have an easy-to-use workspace manager to manage datasources, datasets and maps. It has four components: data view, map view, layout view, and resource view. The user can not only create, open, close and save a workspace, data source, dataset or map in a shortcut menu, but also can sort, browse, copy datasets in this manager. The manager works similarly to Windows Explorer, so that you can easily manage it. Moreover, extra data management capabilities are listed as below:

   ○ Support for SDB, SBD+, DGN, DWG, DXF, SDX+ for Oracle, SDX+ for SQL Server, SDX+ for Sybase, SDX+ for DB2 and SDX+ for DM3.
   ○ Batch creating dataset.
   ○ Mouse dragging operation in more functions.

    Data conversion

The import and output functions support popular vector formats such as .dxf of AutoCAD, .e00 of ArcInfo, .mif of MapInfo, etc., and popular binary formats in GIS/CAD software such as Coverage format of ArcInfo, .tab of MapInfo and so on. In regard of raster format, not only popular image formats but also professional formats like .img of Erdas and .tiff of Geo are supported. Furthermore, two image compression formats based on wavelet theory, namely ECW and MrSID, are also supported.

    Topology

When using GIS in public transportation, underground pipe, electricity, communication and cable television etc. to do system analysis or maintenance, you need to work with network data. The network data consists of nodes and arcs, and also complex spatial topology relationships between these elements. For example, streets interconnected to each other at street intersections, pipes connected with valves, highways connecting to cities. In GIS, you should build network model to analyze network data. The topology functions in SuperMap desktop products include:

   ○ Generate network dataset.
   ○ Maintain topology relationships automatically.
   ○ Build polygons automatically.
   ○ Perform topology processing for overshoot, undershoot, pseudo-node, adjacent vertices etc.

Data Query

Data query is a common function in GIS software, and most of the routine tasks of GIS projects will use data query. With SuperMap GIS, you can query your data in multiple ways to find and browse the specified spatial and attribute information. The main functions include:

◆ Bilateral query between spatial data and attribute data.
◆  Integrated query cross layer of multiple objects based on both spatial and attribute conditions.
◆ Find and replace text like working in a word document.
◆ Fully support for SQL query and group, sort and statistical analysis of query result.

Spatial Analysis

SuperMap Deskpro delivers many spatial analysis functions, which assist decision makers and analysts to explore information behind the spatial data.
The analysis functions in SuperMap Deskpro include:

◆ Distance, area, and angle measurement:

SuperMap Deskpro allows users to measure the distance along points, the area formed by points and angles in any directions on the map. It is suggested that you open Smart Snapping to locate places of interest when measuring so that you can obtain accurate distance, area, or azimuth.

  ◆ Buffer analysis:

Buffer analysis in SuperMap Deskpro not only supports buffer for a single point, line, or polygon but also supports buffer for a group of objects. It means that the user can create buffer zones for each object respectively and also a group of objects can be regarded as a whole to create a buffer zone. This function will be of great assistance in environmental monitoring, emergence control, road design and commercial analysis etc.

  ◆ Overlay analysis:

SuperMap Deskpro has six types of overlay analysis: clip, erase, union, intersect, identity and symmetric difference. Users can perform several types of overlay analysis between two datasets to get a desired result.

  ◆ Network analysis:

For example, optimal path analysis, adjacent node, critical node/edge, connected node/edge analysis, service area analysis, closest facility search, resource allocation and so on. The network analysis plays an important role in satellite navigation, transportation, communication and other network design.

  ◆ Grid analysis:

The function offers surface analysis, hydrological analysis and grid statistics, algebraic operations.

  ◆ 3D modeling and analysis

The function is exclusive in SuperMap Deskpro.

  ◆ 3D modeling and analysis

SuperMap Deskpro supports rapid construction of Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) and 3D surface model by using contour and discrete 3D points. It also delivers conversion from TIN to DEM as well as contour calculation by using TIN.

  ◆ Slope/Aspect calculation

Slope/aspect value at any point of a 3D model can be obtained as well as 3D coordinates of a specified point. This analysis is performed in a 3D window, which can help users to create 3D profile, perform flood analysis and so on.

Map Layout

SuperMap Deskpro offers map layout functions in the following aspects:

◆ Maps can be exported to raster datasets or image files:

Maps can be saved as raster datasets and in image formats (.bmp and .jpg). After processed in image processing software, they are ready for printing and publishing. Maps can be also used in GIS projects, as digital maps in CDs or be published on GIS enabled website, or even exported into other formats for external systems.

◆ Layout printing, multi-page bitmap export and frame printing.

Layout printing works the same as standard Windows printing, and can be printed on laser printers, ink jet plotters or other printing devices. Paper size, paper source, its orientation and other parameters are allowed to be set according to users’ need. If the setting layout is larger than the paper size, the system will automatically execute multi-page printout.

◆ Support for mapping elements such as map frame, scale bar, north arrow, etc.
