Supreme Map Editing Capabilities

Conventional GIS software packages are usually not as much powerful as CAD software in map editing so that CAD is often used for spatial data collection, management and update, which increases cost and leads to loss of data when converting CAD data to GIS data. SuperMap GIS breaks limitations of conventional GIS in map editing, and provides powerful map editing functions. Thus database building, managing, updating and developing can be carried out directly within SuperMap GIS software.

  ◆ Flexible interactive Map Editing

SuperMap GIS offers interactive map editing functions and supports drawing a wild variety of geometric objects such as point, line, region, text, arc, parameterized objects and other complex geometric objects.

As for an existing geometric object, the editing functions offered in SuperMap GIS include clip, extend, mirror, fillet, smooth, erase and so on. Users can even modify every vertex of the geometric object in SuperMap GIS, such as adding, deleting and moving of any specific vertex.

Moreover, SuperMap GIS supports convenient browsing operations during editing. The users can switch to browsing operations like zooming in/out, and panning in any time during editing, then after navigating to the proper region of the map, go on with their editing. This function really facilitates the editing job.

  ◆ Smart Snapping Capability

The editing function is enhanced by smart snapping, which can be divided into line and point snapping:

    ○ Line snapping:

Lines with a specified relationship with the current line can be snapped easily. An adequate range of relationships are covered.

     Point snapping:

Lines or points with a specified relationship with the current mouse cursor can be snapped easily. An adequate range of relationships are covered.

  ◆ Semi-automatic Tracing

Raster to vector conversion is an important function in GIS software. Image, ECW, MrSID dataset and Grid dataset can be fully supported in raster data vectorization of SuperMap GIS. Both b/w image and multi-color image can be supported in this function.

At the same time, semi-automatic tracing function of SuperMap GIS can be adopted during raster-to-vector vectorization process, making the operation more efficient.

  ◆ Automatic Maintenance of Topology

When editing network dataset, maintenance and update of topological relations of nodes and arcs is a significant but time-consuming job. SuperMap GIS solves it pretty well, when a node or arc is modified, the nodes and arcs connecting with it will be adjusted automatically to the right positions. When a node or arc is inserted, SuperMap GIS will automatically split, connect or do other operations in order to maintain the integrity of the network without rebuilding topology over and over again.

  ◆ Undo/Redo

SuperMap GIS automatically records all map editing operations and you can perform Undo/Redo with no limit. This way, you can go back to any step of your editing, and do not worry about loss of your editing information.

Comprehensive Data Security Mechanism

  ◆ Spatial Database

In early large GIS projects, the client-sides get access to spatial data on the server usually via file sharing. This mode makes it easy to embezzle data from the client-side. Spatial database technique of SuperMap GIS adopts relational databases to store spatial data, and the administrator can create the account, password and permission for each user on the server-side. The user can only access and use data under certain permission. This has adequately fixed data security problem of conventional GIS data access mode.

  ◆ Data Files

For data stored in files, SuperMap GIS supports encrypted function. By using this technique, it can prevent unauthorized users from using your data even though they use SuperMap GIS software, which ensures high security of data.

  ◆ Imagery

For the security of image data, SuperMap GIS has also taken enough consideration. In SuperMap GIS, image data can be stored into spatial database and SDB files, and the security protection technologies described above can be applied. It also supports encrypted MrSID image data and SIT image data.
